Custom Rulesets

Every group plays a little differently. Rulesets let you save your house rules and apply them instantly when creating a new match — no reconfiguring every time.

What's configurable

Each game has its own set of configurable rules. Common examples:

  • Spades: target score, bags, bag penalty, nil bids, blind bids, 10-bids, renege penalty
  • Up & Down the River: starting hand size, scoring method, missed bid penalty
  • Hearts: end condition (point total or rounds), renege settings
  • Gin Rummy: end condition, gin bonus, undercut bonus
  • Bridge: game variant (Rubber or Chicago), vulnerability, slam bonuses, honors

See each game's help page for a full list of options.

Creating a ruleset

Rulesets can be created from the Settings page under Rulesets, or during match creation after you've configured the rules to your liking.

  1. Open Settings → Rulesets
  2. Tap New ruleset and choose a game
  3. Adjust each rule to match your group's preferences
  4. Give the ruleset a name (e.g. "Our Spades" or "Tuesday Night Bridge")
  5. Tap Save

Applying a ruleset

During match creation (Step 3: Configure Rules), tap the Ruleset dropdown to select a saved ruleset. All settings will update to match the saved configuration.

You can still override individual settings after applying a ruleset — this won't change the saved ruleset, only the settings for that specific match.

Editing and deleting rulesets

Go to Settings → Rulesets, tap a ruleset to edit it, or use the delete button to remove it. Deleting a ruleset doesn't affect past matches that used it.

Tip: You can have multiple rulesets for the same game. This is useful if you play with different groups who have different house rules.
